Free CrossFit Class for Every Adult in Basehor: Why We Do Community Workout Week

Cobra Command's Free Community Workout Week is back June 1–6. Every class is free, including CrossFit, HYROX, Semi-Private, and Kids. Here's why we do it and who it's for.

A year ago, Kayla and Jeremy Smith walked into Cobra Command for a free CrossFit class because a friend invited them.

They didn’t have a plan. They didn’t know what they were walking into. They just trusted their friend, came in, and tried it.

A year later, they’re both regulars on hybrid memberships, both PR’d their major lifts this year (Squats, Bench, Deadlift, Press), both are working on snatches, clean and jerks, and pull-ups. Kayla has hit body composition goals she’s been chasing for years. They are, in every honest sense of the word, crushing it.

That whole arc started with one free class during last year’s Community Workout Week.

This year, we’re doing it again. And the door is open to you.

What Free Community Workout Week is

Free Community Workout Week runs June 1 through June 6 at Cobra Command. Every class on the schedule is free that week. CrossFit. HYROX. Semi-Private training. Kids classes. Show up, train with a real coach, and find out what coaching-first actually feels like in the room.

There’s no catch. No mandatory sales pitch. No high-pressure follow-up. You come, you train, you decide what’s next.

This is also our official Bring a Friend Week. If you’re already a Cobra member, this is your week to drag the one friend, sibling, spouse, or coworker who’s been on the fence into the gym with you. If you’ve been thinking about Cobra, this is your week to walk in without paying for the privilege.

Why we do this

There’s a simple answer and a longer one. The simple answer is that no one signs up for a gym based on a blog post.

People sign up for a gym based on a real experience. The energy in the room. The coach who actually scaled them. The person next to them who said “good job” when they finished. You can’t email that. You can’t put it on Instagram. You have to walk in.

The longer answer is the one I think about more often. Cobra exists because the fitness industry is full of adults who quietly want to start, can’t picture themselves walking in, and assume every gym is going to make them feel out of place. Free Community Week is our annual answer to that.

For one week, the door is open. The price is gone. The pressure is off. All you have to do is show up.

Who this is built for

If you’ve been telling yourself any version of the following, this week is for you:

  • “I’d love to try CrossFit but I’d be the worst one there.”
  • “I haven’t worked out in years. I need to get in shape before I join a gym.”
  • “I want to be more consistent but I’m tired of starting over.”
  • “My friend keeps inviting me. Maybe this is the week.”
  • “I want to find something my partner and I can do together.”
  • “I want to set a real fitness goal. I just don’t know what.”

All of those are exactly the kind of person we built Cobra to coach. You don’t need to be in shape. You don’t need to know what you’re doing. You don’t need to commit to anything past the class itself.

You just need to walk in.

What you can try

We’re opening every program we offer that week. Pick the class that matches what you’ve been curious about:

  • CrossFit group classes. Coach-led, scaled, beginner-friendly. The most popular program at Cobra. Best place to start if you’re new.
  • HYROX classes. Sled push, sandbag, the works. Best place to start if you want a fitness race on your calendar.
  • Semi-Private training. Small group, custom-written by a coach. Best place to start if you want individualized attention without the full one-on-one price tag.
  • Kids classes & Teen classes. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:15 PM for kiddos and 6:30PM for teens. Best place to start if your kid has been bouncing off the walls and you’ve been looking for an outlet.

Pick one. Pick two. Pick all four. There’s no limit to how many classes you can attend during the week.

How to bring a friend

If you’re a Cobra member already, the play this week is simple. Pick one friend. Text them today. Tell them you’ve been talking about this gym for months and now they can come try it free. Walk in with them on Monday, Tuesday, or whichever day works.

The Smiths came because Krissy dragged them in. Now they’re on our committed club every single month.

If you’re not a member yet and a friend has been telling you about Cobra, this is the week to say yes.

How to sign up

Pick the day. Pick the class. Show up.

In a couple days, I’m going to tell you the full Smith family story, because their year at Cobra is the clearest example I can give you of what a free class can turn into. For now, you have the date.

June 1 through June 6. We’ll see you in the gym.
