Free Community Workout Week starts Monday, June 1, at Cobra Command, and runs through Saturday, June 6. This is the week you can try CrossFit free, try HYROX free, try Semi-Private training free, or bring your kid to a free Kids class. Every class on our schedule is open.
This blog is your walk-through. What to expect, what to wear, how to sign up, and how to bring the friend you’ve been thinking about for the last six months.
Who this week is for
If you’ve never set foot in a CrossFit gym, this week is for you. If you’ve been on the fence for a year, this week is for you. If you keep telling your friend you’ll come “next week,” this week is for you. If you’ve been chasing a fitness goal alone and finally want a coach in the room, this week is for you.
The only people Free Community Workout Week isn’t for are the people who don’t show up. Everyone else is welcome.
What to expect when you walk in
Here’s what a free CrossFit class at Cobra Command actually looks like, from the moment you walk in:
You’ll be greeted by a coach. They’ll introduce themselves, walk you to the floor, and ask you a few quick questions about what you’ve done before and whether you have any injuries or limitations.
You’ll meet the class. You won’t be the only person in the room. You also won’t be the only first-timer that week. We expect it. The members will introduce themselves. Someone will probably ask if you’re a friend of someone they know.
The coach will walk through the workout. Every CrossFit class at Cobra starts with a movement-by-movement breakdown. The coach explains what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and how to scale every piece of it to your body and skill level.
You’ll train. The workout itself is usually 8 to 20 minutes of work, depending on the day. You’ll be scaled. You’ll be modified. You will not be left to figure it out alone, and you will not be pushed past what your body can safely handle.
You’ll finish. That’s the part most people don’t believe until they see it. The workouts are scaled so every member, regardless of fitness level, finishes. You’ll be tired. You’ll be sweaty. You won’t be broken.
You’ll talk to the coach after. They’ll ask how it felt. They’ll answer questions. If you want to come back, they’ll help you find your next class.
That’s the whole experience.
What to wear
Shoes you can run and lift in. Athletic shoes work fine for the first class. If you have flat-soled training shoes, even better. Workout clothes you can move in. Water bottle. That’s it.
You don’t need a CrossFit shirt. You don’t need to bring anything else.

Pick the day. Pick the class. Show up about ten minutes early so you have time to meet your coach and find your way around.
What programs are open this week
Every class on the schedule. Specifically:
- CrossFit group classes. Multiple times every day, Monday through Saturday. The most popular and the best place to start.
- HYROX classes. Race-prep training, sled push, sandbag work, runs. Best if a HYROX race is on your radar.
- Semi-Private training. Small group, custom-written. Best if you want more individualized coaching without going full one-on-one.
- Kids & Teens classes. Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:15 PM for kids, 6:30PM for Teens. Best if you want to give your kid an outlet.
You can come to as many as you want during the week.
How to bring a friend
If you’re already a Cobra member, this is the part of the week we need your help with. We can run an event. We can post on social. The people who actually walk in this week walk in because someone they trust told them to.
Pick one person. Text them today. Tell them you’ve been training somewhere good and you want them to come try a class with you. Send them the sign-up link. Walk in with them.
That is the entire mechanic of how Free Community Week works. Members bring members. That’s how the Smiths got here. That’s how a lot of our best members got here.
If you’re not a Cobra member yet and a friend has been talking about this gym, this is the week to say yes. Send them a text. Tell them you’ll come if they’ll come with you.

The hardest part of starting at any gym is walking through the door the first time. This week, the door is open and the cost is gone. The only thing left is the walk in.
I’ll see you in the gym.
