This is a question a lot of people struggle with. Do a program, have results, end the program… regain the weight. Why so much struggle? Most programs teach you to follow a plan instead of teaching you how to eat and how your body actually works. So when the plan ends you go right back to what you knew before… and what you knew before is what got you here in the first place.
We’ve been talking about nutrition all month at Cobra Command, because our 90 Day Nutrition Cycle starts Tuesday, Sept 8th. And this is the fear sitting underneath almost every single conversation I have. Not “can I lose it.” People know they can lose it. Most of them have lost it three or four times already. The real question is whether it stays off.
So let me tell you about Jenna.
Jenna’s Numbers
We first scanned Jenna in January of 2023 (about a year after she joined us). She weighed 168 pounds with 36% body fat.
Her most recent InBody scan, this past May: 132 pounds. 23% body fat.
That’s 36 pounds. And she has held onto it for over three years, which is the part almost NOBODY manages.
What Actually Causes the Regain
Gaining back the weight is rarely about willpower. I want to be really clear about that, because most people carry a mountain of shame and blame here it simply isn’t warranted.
Here’s what tends to happen instead:
You follow somebody else’s meal plan. It works, because eating exactly what you’re told usually does work. But you never learn WHY it worked, so you can’t adjust it when your life changes.
Then the program ends. Or you go on vacation. Or work gets crazy and the meal prep stops. Or worse yet, it is so different from what you would typically do, you get burnt out by the protocol…. and you say “nevermind”.
And you’re right back where you started, except now you’ve also lost muscle… so the same amount of food that used to maintain you makes you gain instead.
The Part That Isn’t Your Fault
There’s some real physiology underneath this, and you should understand it.
When you lose weight, your body fights to get it back. Your hunger hormones go up and stay up. Your fullness signals get quieter. And your metabolism runs lower than you’d predict from your new size alone, sometimes for years afterward. Your nervous system reads the whole thing as a threat, and it does not let go easily. Researchers call it adaptive thermogenesis, which is a fancy way of saying your body is actively working to return you to the size it thinks you should be.
So you’re not imagining it. You genuinely are hungrier than your friend who never dieted, and you genuinely do need less food than someone who has always weighed what you weigh now.
The answer to that is more muscle, enough food to keep your metabolism from sinking any further, and habits that don’t require white knuckles to hold onto.
What We Do Instead
Here at Cobra Command, our goal is that you don’t need us forever.
Which sounds strange coming from a business that charges for nutrition coaching. It’s also the only honest measure of whether this program works.
So instead of handing you a meal plan, we teach you what your body is telling you. What hunger and fullness actually feel like. What enough protein looks like on your plate. How to handle a weekend, a vacation, a holiday party… without the whole thing coming apart.
It’s slower. It’s harder to sell. And it’s the only version that survives contact with real life.
It combines exercise science, physiology, psychology, and real life together, so it is actually sustainable.
Jenna Is Maintaining on Her Own
She did more than three years of nutrition coaching with us. She’s off coaching completely now and holding at 132, entirely on her own. Listening to her body, adapting based on life, and absolutely crushing it.
That’s the finish line we are ACTUALLY aiming at. Not a client for life. A woman who knows how to run her own body.
So What About the Holidays?
This is the question we get every single fall. “But football… but holidays… but pumpkin spice lattes!”
Our Nutrition Cycle runs from the week of September 8th through the first week of December. That timing is completely on purpose.
You finish before the heaviest stretch of the year, with the habits already built. So you walk into Thanksgiving and Christmas knowing exactly what you’re doing, instead of death gripping through it and starting over in January.
January is where good intentions go to die. I’d much rather you walk into January already ahead & already knowing what you’re doing.
Ready to learn it once and for all?
Our 90 Day Nutrition Cycle starts the week of September 8th and runs through the first week of December.
Nutrition coaching is $89 every 2 weeks. Same price whether you already train at Cobra or you’ve never set foot in the building.
Want the strength training too? Nutrition PLUS unlimited CrossFit is $170 every 2 weeks. If you’re already a member that’s just an upgrade to the Founders Membership. If you’re new, there’s a one-time $388 to get started, which covers 4x 1:1 Fundamentals sessions (to help you learn proper form & technique) and your first nutrition block.
Either way you get a plan built for your body, weekly coaching and accountability, and InBody scans so you can actually see what’s changing.
And at the end of the 90 days, you choose. Keep going, or move to whatever membership fits your life from there. Our goal is that you walk out knowing how to do this on your own.
Book a No Sweat Intro at Cobra Command in Basehor and we’ll get you scanned.
