We are two weeks into this series, so I know you get the big idea. GLP-1s are a tool, and the gym is what turns it into long term results. You’ve heard my story and Coach Julie’s. Now I want to get practical, because the difference between smaller-and-weaker and strong-and-lean is not a secret. It comes down to a handful of things you do on repeat while the weight comes off.
Here is the day-to-day playbook we coach at Cobra Command in Basehor.
Eat your protein.
This is the one that trips almost everyone up. The medication kills your appetite, which feels great until you realize you’ve eaten 40 grams of protein by 4 in the afternoon and your body is quietly borrowing from your muscle to make up the difference.
You have to be intentional now in a way you never had to be before. Protein first at every meal. A protein target you actually hit every day, hungry or not. We set that number with you, because it depends on your body and your goals, and then we help you build meals that make it easy instead of a daily fight.
Lift, don’t just move.
Steps are great. Cardio is great for your heart. Neither one tells your body to keep its muscle. Only resistance training does that.
You do not need to train like a competitor. Two or three real strength sessions a week is enough to send the signal, and we scale every movement so it fits exactly where you are today. This is the single most important thing you can add while you’re losing weight, because it decides whether the pounds coming off are fat or muscle.
Fuel the work, don’t starve it.
Here is a mistake I made for years, and I see other disciplined people make it too. The medication already puts you in a deficit by cutting your appetite. If you stack a crash diet on top of that, you are not doubling your results. You are accelerating muscle loss, tanking your energy, and setting up a plateau.
Eat enough to recover from your training. Fuel around your workouts. A body that is fed and trained holds its muscle. A body that is starved and hammered gives it away.
Don’t confuse more with better.
I trained harder and harder for years and it did not save me. When your body is losing weight, it recovers slower, not faster. More intensity is not the answer. Consistency is. Three smart, well-coached sessions a week will beat six exhausting ones that leave you wrecked, every single time.
Track the right numbers.
The scale is the loudest number and the least useful one right now. It cannot tell you what you’re losing.
We use InBody scans so we can actually see how much of your loss is fat and how much is muscle. We watch your strength go up. We notice how your clothes fit and how your energy feels. Those are the numbers that tell the real story, and they are the ones that predict whether your results stick.
Cover the basics.
Eating less means you’re taking in fewer of the things your body needs. Stay on top of your water, your electrolytes, and your fiber, and pay attention to how you feel. Your prescriber is the right person for anything to do with the medication itself and its side effects. My job is what happens in the gym and on your plate, and that part we can make simple.
None of this is complicated. It is just hard to hold on your own, which is the entire reason a coach and a community exist.
If you’re on a GLP-1 and you want a plan instead of a guess, come see us. Book a No Sweat Intro at Cobra Command, and let’s build the parts of the plan that the medication can’t.
See you in the gym,
Jill
