Adventure, Fitness and Writing Your Own Story

Write a Story Worth Sharing…

Typically, we do all this work in the gym to allow us to pursue adventure OUTSIDE the gym. Maybe it is for a hunting trip into the mountains, or keeping up with your kids, or my personal favorite…. The beach body. On your deathbed, you likely won’t care about your max-rep thruster, but you WILL be glad you climbed Half Dome at Yosemite, or finished the Rim-to-Rim Challenge at Grand Canyon National Park…. and those thrusters helped you do it.

In conversation with a friend this weekend, I mentioned that I solo travelled to Sedona last week, hiked miles upon miles of trail and climbed some of the beautiful red rocks. She said, “You have the most interesting life.” What an amazing compliment.

Few of us will ever be the smartest person in our circles.

Few of us will ever be the best-looking.

Few of us will be the wealthiest.

Few of us will make it to the CrossFit Games or into to the NFL…. Heck, few of us will ever meet Patrick Mahomes let alone play against him. 

But ALL of us can be interesting. And fitness creates that opportunity better than anything else.

You don’t need money to run a marathon. You don’t need to be a model to climb Mount Kilimanjaro or a millionaire to sail around the world. But doing ANY of these three would make you more interesting than any millionaire, model or professional athlete. Infinitely so.

You won’t count your money on your deathbed. You won’t gaze at old selfies or carry the Lombardy Trophy into the bright light. But your story, if you have a good one, will survive. I know I want to write the best story I can…. And it had better be one heck of a story.

My goal… and the goal of the staff at Cobra Command is to create interesting experiences for you. To create new chapters, or funny little episodes that will make you dogear this page forever. Many times, when I see people outside the gym, they’ll say “Hey, remember that time I …” and share a story from the gym. Many people have rewritten their life story at Cobra Command. 

This summer, we’re creating some huge opportunities for you to write new chapters.

  1. Farm Fit Games: Try your hand at some fresh farm style fitness. Think haybale toss, feedbag over the shoulder and a little bit of CrossFit.  Saturday, May 22nd.
  2. C3 Paddle Outing: Join the C3 Community for a camping adventure and float in the scenic river region of Missouri! August 13th-15th.  
  3. C3 Spring Break 2022: We are in the works to plan a week long C3 Community Spring Break trip in 2022 to Utah, and it’s 7 National Parks. This will be an all inclusive trip that includes activities, lodging, transportation and a load of fun. Details coming soon! 

There’s a ton of other events that Cobra Command members are doing this summer. They’re all awesome.

Having a training goal is valuable to the point of necessity. Having a road map to help you achieve it is critical. But finishing with a great story—that’s really the goal of all of it. And fitness is the platform to get you there.

Ride a bike, run a distance, or take a hike in a National Park: You’re going to need the gym.
